Labor Day Weekend

Saturday we made plans to go to Rochester and cook dinner for Deb for her birthday. It ended up being a great evening! PJ made ribs, a steak that was bigger than my head (I know...that's HUGE!) and sweet corn on the cob. It was wonderful! The best part of the day was getting to spend time with the family, though. Ashlyn and Aubrey just love Allie and Joey...they always have so much fun over there.
Sunday was really laid-back, we went to church and then had lunch - just hung out the rest of the day.
Monday we decided to go to the zoo in Buffalo. What an adventure that was! I read online that if you had a coupon from Tops, then admission was only $1. So, being the cheapskate that I am, I Googled Tops and got directions to the one closest to the zoo. Unbeknownst to me, it was in the HOOD, and let's just say we were the minority in that neighborhood! So, PJ refused to let anyone out of the car and made the executive decision to pay full price at the zoo.
When we finally found the zoo and a parking place and got in line, PJ walked up to the front of the line just to get an idea of how long it was. About 5 minutes later he returned and we figured it would be a better idea to come back on a day when half the population of Western NY was elsewhere. (I'd like to take the opportunity to point out that I am not the only cheap person out there, contrary to what my husband would like to believe!)
In the end, we ended up having a picnic lunch beside the car (thanks for making me keep that blanket in my trunk, Momma!) and then driving the 40 minutes back to Batavia to get ice cream. One funny thing did happen while we were getting ice cream. I asked Ashlyn who was on the five dollar bill, and she looked me dead in the eye and said "Abraham Langston!"
Now we're sitting around, watching the Yankees and waiting for the Bowden Bowl (that's the Clemson/Florida State game for all you poor souls who aren't Clemson Fans) to come on. Happy long weekend to us!
